after-school

What if after-school felt like a play-date at your best-friend’s house?

It can. And it does.

Please see the membership deposit links in the table below to reserve your spot for the 2017/2018 school-year.

To register for a single day, choose the Crafter-School Single Day option for the date of your choice using this calendar.  Other after-school activities can be found on our Classes page, including the Crafternoons drop-in program.

After-School Enrichment. Daily. By Design. Now entering its 9th year, the Crafter-Schoolprogram is familiar, nurturing and planet-friendly and includes daily arts enrichment and/or elective courses in addition to homework, reading, tinkering, tech, tumbling/balance and snack time. Program hours are 2:30pm-6:00pm Monday-Friday (optional evening program through 6:30pm is available) and day camps are offered for school-closure days. Contact the workshop by email or phone to learn more and join our community of parents and educators that choose Crafter-School for their children. #creativecuriousconfident

How is Crafter-School different from other after-school programs?

  • We operate with a culture of do’s rather than don’ts, and believe in the capabilities of all students, however different they may be.  Our focus on self-awareness builds confidence and respect, develops self-regulation and self-advocacy and strengthens conflict-resolution and communication skills. We grows artists, thinkers and good citizens.
  • Our deliberately small program size creates a nurturing environment with student-favorable ratios. Students from multiple schools throughout the neighborhood get to know one another. We get to know your family and your student and their needs and interests (even if it includes saxophone practice.)
  • All Crafter-School students have access to Wishcraft Workshop elective courses and workshops.
  • The space includes a large open workshop, a library/coding/homework room, technology for homework/research support (Chromebooks, tablets and printer), multiple work/play spaces (including tumbling mats and a balance beam) and (weather permitting) is walking distance to local parks and playlots.
  • Campus pick-ups (walking “school bus”) at Audubon, Bell and Hamilton Elementary schools in Chicago are offered daily, and students from Coonley, St. Bens, NPES and other local schools are warmly welcomed with their own transportation.
  • Program operates on school-closure days (other than observed holidays or school breaks) and discounted day-camps are offered on school closure-days and many holidays.
  • Programming in our colorful workshop provides students a change of scenery and a clean, green and truly comfortable place to learn, create and play.
  • We understand working parents and utilize technology to make staff (and your kids!) available to parents by mobile phone, text messaging and email.
  • Good, planet-friendly cleaning practices create a safe environment for those students with even the most severe allergies or intolerance.
  • Full-Time (5 days/week), Part-Time (3 days/week) and Single-Day (1 day/week) memberships are available. Single-day registration is also available ($35/day or $15/day for students enrolled in a course or workshop for the same day). “Phew!” memberships are available to purchase multiple single-day visits at a discount. Part-Time Crafter-School families can design their own 3 day/week schedule that works best for them.
  • Online registration allows families to take care of business during off-hours.
